Despacito was a track from the year 2017 made by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the single that became the most popular streamed song in the world within six months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music not only brought interest back to the genre, but also to Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two songs mostly of Spanish and in 2016 there were four. However, during the heights of the Despacito's popularity in 2017, there were 19 mainly Spanish songs that were included in the Top 100. In 2020, it was 41. Justin Bieber's bilingual version of Despacito was released in the year. Then, numerous pop stars began to collaborate with reggaeton performers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny to create MIA (2018), and Madonna was a part of Maluma to create Medellin. The year 2000 saw a number of reggaeton stars were complaining about the genre's direction toward the mainstream, but a new generation, led by Rauw Alejandro, sought to continue the evolution of reggaeton. The musician incorporated electronic dance music and other genres into his songs.
